A fire that broke out in a Carluccio’s restaurant at Bicester Village during breakfast service this morning has brought business to a standstill.

35 firefighters were called to the blaze at the Oxfordshire location, which occurred at 8.30am.

On its website, Bicester Village, which houses dozens of designer outlets, stated: “Bicester Village is temporarily closed owing to a restaurant fire, which is being attended to by the fire brigade. Happily everyone on site is safe.”

Operators of the retail village said it would remain closed “for the rest of the day,” although local press reports suggest staff have been told it might re-open later this afternoon.

The fire is understood to have damaged the roof of Carluccion’s, but did not spread to other retail units.

Council officials said fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control and confirmed nobody was hurt.

However, it has not yet been revealed what caused the fire.

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service stated: “Seven fire engines and around 35 firefighters were on scene to deal with the incident, which started at around 8.30am today. An aerial platform ladder was used to tackle the fire, which had spread to the roof of the building.

“Firefighters are currently damping down at the scene and monitoring adjacent buildings. No injuries have been reported. Crews are liaising closely with the Bicester Village management and Thames Valley Police. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.”
